چکیده

In a recent work (Covas et al., 1996), the behaviour and the robustness of truncated dynamos with a dynamic were studied with respect to a number of changes in the driving term of the dynamic equation, which was considered previously by Schmalz and Stix (1991) to be of the form A B . Here we review and extend our previous work and consider the effect of adding a quadratic quenching term of the form jBj. We find that, as before, such a change can have significant effects on the dynamics of the related truncated systems. We also find intervals of (negative) dynamo numbers, in the system considered by Schmalz and Stix (1991), for which there is sensitivity with respect to small changes in the dynamo number and the initial conditions, similar to what was found in our previous work. This latter behaviour may be of importance in producing the intermittent type of behaviour observed in the Sun.

Given the importance of hydrodynamic dynamos in accounting for solar and stellar variabilities, a large number of studies have been made of their dynamical modes of behaviour using a range of dynamo models. However, the complexity and the numerical costs of employing the full magneto-hydrodynamical partial differential equations (Gilman 1983) have resulted in a great deal of effort going into t...

Dynamic Bayesian Information Measures

This paper introduces measures of information for Bayesian analysis when the support of data distribution is truncated progressively. The focus is on the lifetime distributions where the support is truncated at the current age t>=0. Notions of uncertainty and information are presented and operationalized by Shannon entropy, Kullback-Leibler information, and mutual information. Dynamic updatings...

Robust optimization of a mathematical model to design a dynamic cell formation problem considering labor utilization

Cell formation (CF) problem is one of the most important decision problems in designing a cellular manufacturing system includes grouping machines into machine cells and parts into part families. Several factors should be considered in a cell formation problem. In this work, robust optimization of a mathematical model of a dynamic cell formation problem integrating CF, production planning and w...

Crisis-induced intermittency in truncated mean field dynamos

We investigate the detailed dynamics of a truncated αω dynamo model with a dynamic α effect. We find the presence of multiple attractors, including two chaotic attractors with a fractal basin boundary which merge to form a single attractor as the control parameter is increased. By considering phase portraits and the scaling of averaged times of transitions between the two attractors, we demonst...

Dynamos with different formulations of a dynamic α–effect

We investigate the behaviour of αΩ dynamos with a dynamic α, whose evolution is governed by the imbalance between a driving and a damping term. We focus on truncated versions of such dynamomodels which are often studied in connection with solar and stellar variability. Given the approximate nature of such models, it is important to study how robust they are with respect to reasonable changes in...
